HealthStart
This programme aims to promote health among seniors through non-healthcare and youth volunteers, as well as promote wellbeing among seniors through adoption of digital technology.
Non-healthcare and youth volunteers will be supported and mentored by healthcare volunteers (doctors and nurses).
Join us in promoting health and wellbeing among seniors!
What We Do
-
1. Health & Digital Coaching
Volunteers will perform health and digital coaching for seniors during community events (e.g. health screening results collection event).
Volunteers will also introduce health-related apps and health resources to seniors and encourage them to adopt healthier lifestyles by setting health goals.
-
2. Follow Up Visits
After the community event, volunteers will continue to follow up with seniors in their homes and empower them to utilise their mobile devices for communication, entertainment, and health promotion.
Timeline for Volunteers
1) Online E-learning
After confirmation, volunteers will receive a set of online pre-training materials. Volunteers are required to read through all materials before attending the Volunteer Training Session.
2) Volunteer Training Session
This is a compulsory in-person training session to be attended by all volunteers before their deployment. This session consists of a general introduction and briefing, icebreakers, introduction to motivational interviewing, and case-based scenarios role-playing.
3) Deployment
After attending the training, all volunteers will be deployed for a community event and will follow up with seniors for a period of 3 months.
Non-healthcare and youth volunteers will conduct fortnightly visits to seniors’ homes for 3 months; there are no fixed dates and it will be up to volunteers and seniors to arrange common dates.
Healthcare volunteers (doctors or nurses) will support and mentor non-healthcare and youth volunteers over the 3 month period.
All volunteers will be able to approach the TriGen Committee and seek assistance if there are any issues encountered during visits.
TriGen@SGH is proud and grateful to be part of the Digital for Life Movement and would like to express our heartful gratitude to IMDA for their unwavering support and partnership.
